Island Yoga 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training Intensive

OCTOBER 27, 2018 – NOVEMBER 18, 2018

22 Nights / 23 Days Immersion

The Island Yoga 200-hr Teacher Training Program with Rachel Brathen, Yoga Girl™, is finally here! We have created a 23-day immersion designed to fully prepare you to teach yoga from an authentic place of inspiration, education, creativity, and compassion. This is education with direct healing impact.

Created by Island Yoga’s founder, Rachel Brathen, this program is an intense culmination of her devoted asana practice and meditation, countless personal breakthroughs, thousands of hours in the yoga classroom, and the courage to shift her life and empower others through sharing honest experiences and teaching yoga.

Our program offers the highest standards of foundational yoga content & philosophy, anatomy & physiology, and curious exploration into your personal layers – awakening your truth on every level. Unlike other Yoga Teacher Training programs, our program not only focuses on the physical elements of yoga, it centers around reconnecting to our deepest resources of self-awareness, empathy, and courageous motivation.
It is a journey. It is a process. It is a lifelong path that begins here.

Upon completion and passing of all examinations, you will receive an Island Yoga 200-Hr Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, giving you eligibility to register with globally recognized Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200.

FAQ

What do the different room options mean?

The Shared Room is for anyone who is open to sharing a bedroom and bathroom with one other person. You each have your own bed. If you are traveling solo, you are welcome to book this option; many other solo travelers book this option, too. You are not responsible for securing the bookings for the other 3 spots in the unit. If you are traveling with people and you all want to book this option, please let us know so we can assure you’re all placed in the same unit. This option is $6,865 USD per person.

The Private Room is for two people who are traveling together and want a private space. You are not paired with someone you don’t know if you book this spot. If you want a private room but are traveling solo, you would select the Single Room option. This option is $7,065 USD per person.

The Single Room is for ONE person only. If you want to share the room with a family member or friend, you would select the Private Room option.

What will I learn?

Our program is constructed into three modules:

Module 1: Core Foundational Program
Module 2: Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Assisting
Module 3: Self Discovery & New Beginnings

Example subjects that will be covered include:

Asana: Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative
Meditation
Anatomy and Physiology
Introduction to Safe Adjustments and Assisting
Yoga History and Philosophy
Practice Teaching
Sequencing and Planning
Voice and Body Language
Healthy Lifestyle and Eating
Personal Discovery and New Beginnings
The Business of Yoga and Leading from Love

Who will be teaching what?

Rachel is the lead teacher of this training program, and she will be present during each session. Lara is our expert contributor in the Anatomy and Physiology portion. Please see each of their photos above for their biographies.

What if I have special circumstances?

If you have a special circumstance, please describe in an email to experience@islandyoga.com.

Should I fly in the day before the program begins and depart the day after the program ends? When exactly does the training start and end?

The program will begin the evening of October 28, and it will end late morning of November 19. If you can arrange your flights to be able to present for the first evening and final morning – wonderful. The most ideal option would be to arrive 1 day early (October 27) and leave 1 day later (November 20) so that you have time to slowly ground. If you would like to extend your stay for any reason, including just October 27 and November 20, we ask that you contact the hotel directly to book your additional nights.

Please note that if you are flying from Aruba back to the US, you will go through customs in Aruba before departure instead of upon landing Stateside. It is recommended to allot 2.5-3 hours for full check-in and customs before your departure time.

Is this a Yoga Alliance certified program?

Yes, this program is certified with Yoga Alliance as a RYS-200. This means that upon completion and passing of all exams, we will give you a certificate and instructions to register with Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200.

How many people will be accepted into this training?

We wish we could hold space for each one of you at once! Since our Luna Shala can only fit so many bodies and mats, we will accept up to 52 people per training.

Is there a different price for international exchange rates?

We are not able to alter our set prices to accommodate all of the exchange rates that exist. All prices that you see are in USD and include all Aruban taxes.

Will I have time to relax and explore the island during the training?

As this is an intensive-structured training, we have a lot to fit into just 23 days. You can expect to spend most of your time learning and practicing, or resting. We value hard work as much as we value play, which is why this training also includes 2 full days of island adventure to recharge our Prana through nature. Overall, you will either be in study-mode or restorative downtime. If you would like to extend your stay in order to explore the island further, we welcome you to arrange an extended stay.

Do I need to rent a car?

We will provide shuttle service to and from the airport, as well as between Island Yoga and your hotel. If you choose to extend your stay, then you may want to consider renting a car. Please note that we will only be able to offer airport shuttles on our set start and end dates – October 28 and November 19 – or 1 day before and after – October 27 and November 20.

What kind of food is served? What if I have specific dietary needs?

Our onsite Nourish Cafe will be serving fresh, vegetarian meals three times per day. The kitchen houses gluten, nut, and soy products. If there are specific foods that you must avoid, the cafe will do their absolute best to keep your foods separate from the foods of concern and supplement however else possible. Our application form includes a section for you to describe your dietary needs.

If you have any severe allergies, it is highly recommended to travel with an EpiPen and to inform our team.

What if I'm not an advanced practitioner? Can I still apply?

You do not need to be able to do a handstand to be eligible 🙂 If you feel called to deepening your personal practice and/or becoming a yoga teacher, then we encourage you to follow that call.

What if I've already taken a 200-hour or higher level training?

It’s quite common for teachers to take the 200-hour level training several times, as each school and teacher leads it differently. There is always a new angle or detail to learn. If you have already completed a training, it will not affect your eligibility in any way. Please note that 200-hour trainings do not stack to bring you up to RYT-400 or other.

Will this training include a SUP Yoga certification?

No, our SUP Yoga training is a completely separate program. You will get to experience a SUP Yoga class guided by our resident teachers, though! As our SUP Yoga Teacher Training holds a prerequisite of having your RYT-200, you will be one big step closer to acquiring it.

Do I need to have completed any training or teaching experience to be eligible?

No, there are no training or teaching prerequisites for this program.

Are there payment plans or scholarships available?

You will need to pay $545 in order to submit your application. Once your acceptance has been confirmed, you will need to secure your spot with a payment equating to 50% of the total price (dependent on the lodging you chose). Then, you will have until 45 days before the training begins to submit the remaining amount. The payment plan does not extend past this 45-day benchmark, which is September 13.

If you are not accepted this time, $500 of your initial deposit will be refunded to you.

We would love to be able to offer scholarships in the future! We are not yet able to do so, but we encourage you to explore fundraising or getting creative to pull the funds together. The internet is a great source to look into for this; one example is gofundme.com.

Will I need to bring my own yoga mat and props?

Each participant is required to have a mat, block, and strap. If you do not bring your own, we will have props available in the boutique for you to rent or buy. Please refer to “What do I need to bring” above for a complete list.

I want to room with a friend. Is this possible?

Yes! Our application form will ask for the name of your friend, and we will do our absolute best to accommodate.

Will I need a Visa to stay in Aruba for the length of this training?

Most tourists can travel to Aruba for up to 30 days without any special permissions or Visas. However, we ask you to please consult this link to see if your country of residence is one that does require special documents.

Will drinking or smoking be permissible during this program?

Smoking is prohibited on the Island Yoga premises. We encourage you to cleanse your body so that it can absorb the knowledge – both mentally and physically – most optimally throughout this training program.

What if my menstrual cycle falls within these training dates?

It will be up to you to decide how much you will practice and how much you will rest. From the medical side, there is no need to stop what you are doing during your cycle. From the Ayurvedic side, which is the sister science to yoga, it is recommended to slow down and avoid inversions and certain foods, while boosting other yoga poses and foods. You could join the group to take notes but not practice, but we do suggest that you bring whatever supplements or supplies you use at home for your cycle so that you are prepared to tend to your body well, enabling you to be present during all lessons.

Do I need to worry about Zika?

Zika cases have been recorded in Aruba, like so many islands and tropical regions, since 2015. However, the amount of confirmed cases are relatively insignificant in number. There are zero recorded cases of pregnant women contracting Zika in Aruba. As long as you wear bug repellant in the evenings and are not pregnant or trying to become pregnant, you will not need to worry. Island Yoga maintains mosquito-free temperatures at all times indoors, and we utilize citronella coils in the outdoor bar area in the evenings. It’s best to pack your own bug repellant and keep it with you for evenings, just in case.
